Living Life

As a writer who would prefer to live life at a slower pace, I’ve instead found myself moving at break-necking speed with a backlog of stories collecting in my head. I know myself well enough to anticipate the moment my mental closet starts begging for a spring clean.

The time is now.

Before social media, I would write monthly emails home to my family and friends to tell them about life in America. I kept this paper trail as a reminder of all the seemingly mundane things we did that made up our days, until Facebook started doing it for me. And then Instagram. It’s probably why some of my posts still read more like emails than a caption highlight. (I also hope it makes you feel more like family.)

My emails would usually have a title, like: Easter, the Eclipse and Everything In-between and then I’d go on to tell about all the things that had happened to us before attaching a few photos at the end.

We’ve lived in Austin for 15 years now, but there are still things that, for me, are a first. First time to visit Seguin over Easter, first time to feel the excitement of Katie’s soccer team going to the State Finals, first time to watch a total solar eclipse, first time to run a 10k in Austin, first time for Eliza’s DI team to be invited to Globals and for her to do a book signing- all within the same week!

Each of these deserve their own story, and maybe now that things have slowed down a little, I’ll get to tell them. But for now, let’s get on with living life!
